The reason why this many centruries old tradition of painting Burano's walls in vivid hues started is not known for sure, some say it was in the Middle Ages, initiated to celebrate which homes were free from the plague, others say the colour matches the original colour of the fishing boat owned by that family...one thing is for sure, this unique part of the world is a rainbow paradise!
